LPG Tanker Passes Hormuz Amid Iranian Link, Indian Ownership Claim
The vessel, identified as Tara Gas, was tracked moving northeast from waters near Dubai and passing close to Iran’s Larak Island, a route that suggests it was using a passage reportedly coordinated or accepted by Iranian authorities.
Draft tracking information indicated that the liquefied petroleum gas tanker was fully loaded, although available monitoring systems did not confirm the origin of its cargo. LPG is commonly used as a household fuel as well as a feedstock in petrochemical industries.
The ship’s transit comes amid growing efforts by vessels operating in the Persian Gulf to secure safe passage through the strategically sensitive waterway, including by emphasizing national affiliations or engaging in diplomatic arrangements involving their flag states and Iran.
According to market sources, countries such as India, Thailand, and Malaysia have been involved in discussions with Iranian officials aimed at ensuring the release or safe movement of energy shipments through the region.
Data cited from energy analytics firms and tracking services indicated that Tara Gas has previously transported Iranian-origin cargo, including an LPG shipment loaded from Iran in January and later delivered to a Chinese port in late February.
Additional tracking records also showed the vessel entering the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz on May 2.
