Indian defense minister states country has shown zero tolerance for terrorism

(MENAFN) Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh reaffirmed the country’s uncompromising stance on terrorism during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) defense ministers’ meeting in Qingdao, China, on Thursday. He declared that India will not hesitate to strike terrorist targets wherever they may be.

Singh urged all SCO member states to take a clear and united stand against terrorism, emphasizing that India’s approach to counterterrorism is evident through its firm actions. Referring to New Delhi’s May 7 strikes on alleged terrorist sites in Pakistan-administered territory, he stated, “The epicenters of terrorism are no longer beyond reach — we will act decisively.”

He also highlighted the need for SCO countries to work together on global challenges such as peace, trust, and security. Singh advocated for "reformed multilateralism" to build mechanisms for dialogue and cooperation, stating that no nation, regardless of its power, can address these challenges in isolation.

Singh warned against states that support terrorism for strategic gain, indirectly referencing Pakistan. “Nations that sponsor and protect terrorists for selfish objectives must be held accountable,” he asserted.

He also condemned the spread of weapons of mass destruction by non-state actors, emphasizing that peace and development cannot coexist with terrorism.

India refused to endorse a joint statement at the SCO meeting, as its concerns about terrorism were excluded. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the joint declaration was dropped because one country did not agree to include language condemning terrorism — a likely reference to Pakistan.
